First, check your battery health Before you change any settings, find out how healthy the battery actually is.
Go to Settings > Battery > Battery Health & Charging. You'll see a percentage labeled Maximum Capacity. That number shows how much charge your battery can hold compared to when it was new.
Apple says iPhone batteries are designed to keep up to 80% of their original capacity after 500 full charge cycles (1,000 cycles on iPhone 15 and newer). If yours is sitting around or below 80%, the battery is aging, and that's very likely why it won't last.
If it's well above 80% and your phone still dies fast, the cause is probably software or habits. Keep reading.
9 common reasons your iPhone battery drains fast
1. Your screen is too bright
The display uses more power than almost anything else on your phone. If brightness is cranked up all day, your battery pays for it. Turn on Auto-Brightness under Settings > Accessibility > Display & Text Size, and drop the brightness manually when you can.
2. Apps are running in the background
Some apps keep refreshing even when you're not using them. Go to Settings > General > Background App Refresh and turn it off for apps that don't need it. Shopping apps and games are usual suspects.
3. One app is eating most of the battery
Open Settings > Battery and scroll down. You'll see a list of apps by battery use. If a single app is taking a big share and you barely touched it, delete it and reinstall it, or find a replacement.
4. Location Services are always on
Maps, weather, social media and shopping apps love to track where you are. Under Settings > Privacy & Security > Location Services, switch most apps to "While Using" or "Never."
5. Weak signal
When your iPhone has bad reception, it keeps searching for a better connection, and that burns power. This happens a lot in parking garages, elevators and rural areas. If you're stuck with a weak signal for long stretches, Airplane Mode is better than letting the phone hunt.
6. Heat
Heat is a battery killer. Leaving your phone on a car dashboard, charging it under a pillow, or using it in direct sun all cause damage that can't be undone. This matters in the Inland Empire, where summer temperatures can climb fast. If your phone feels hot, let it cool off in the shade.
7. A recent iOS update
Right after a big update, your phone spends a day or two re-indexing photos and files in the background. Battery life often dips and then recovers. Give it a few days before blaming the update.
8. Notifications and always-on features
Every notification wakes your screen and uses a little power. A hundred a day adds up. Trim the notifications you don't need, and if you have a newer iPhone with an Always-On Display, try turning it off to see if it helps.
9. The battery is simply worn out
This is the one no setting can fix. A battery is a consumable part. Charge it every day for a couple of years and it will hold less and less. Signs it's time for a new one:
Battery Health is at or below 80%
Your phone shuts off at 20% or 30%
It drops several percent in a few minutes
It gets hot while charging
The back of the phone looks puffed up or the screen is lifting. If you see this, stop charging the phone and bring it in right away. A swollen battery is a safety problem.
Quick tips to make your battery last longer
Turn on Low Power Mode when you're running low
Keep your phone updated
Avoid charging to 100% and leaving it plugged in for hours. Turn on Optimized Battery Charging instead
Use a good-quality, certified charger and cable
Take the case off if the phone runs hot while charging
Restart your phone once in a while
Should you replace the battery or buy a new phone?
If your iPhone is otherwise working fine, a new battery is almost always the better deal. It's much cheaper than a new phone, and it can make an older iPhone feel new again. Replacing the battery usually makes sense when:
The phone is only a few years old
The screen, camera and speakers all work well
You're happy with the phone's speed
If the phone is slow, no longer gets updates, or has multiple problems, it may be time to upgrade. We can also help you with that. We sell new and used phones, and we buy old ones.

FAQ
How long should an iPhone battery last?
Most last about two to three years with normal use before you notice a real drop. Heavy use and heat can shorten that.
Is it bad to charge my iPhone overnight?
Not really. iPhones stop charging when full, and Optimized Battery Charging helps reduce wear. Heat is the bigger concern, so don't charge under a pillow or blanket.
Can a drained battery damage my phone?
Occasionally running low is fine. But letting it hit 0% often, or leaving it dead for weeks, isn't good for it.
How do I know if it's the battery or an app?
Check Settings > Battery for apps using a lot of power, then check Battery Health. If Maximum Capacity is high and one app is draining it, it's the app. If capacity is low,
